„Looking closer at the experience of the oceanic space, serial field trips to the island of Sylt started off the project, as did Wittmann’s and project partner ethnographer Theresa George’s research uncovering the colonial traces of the route they would unavoidably travel. Entitled Empfindliches Rauschen / Tender Noise, the project thrives on thick (noisy) layers of investigatory material. At its core is the tender sensibility of being at sea, which Wittmann and company logged during their journey from Antigua across the Atlantic Ocean to the Acores—visually, audibly (recorded by collaborator Nika Breithaupt), and in writing.“ (Rhea Dall)
